Proposed
Sub-Contractor Usage

Sub-Contractors are a valued asset in managing workload. It is advisable to integrate them into your execution plan. Providing a fixed cost on variable aspects of the workload allow you to estimate and budget a job more accurately. Integrating them into the initial job and allowing your own employees take over will give you control over the final product and leave your customers with a better sense of satisfaction.
The following process described as the “Work Slider Diagram” gives you a gage of what you should be doing yourself and what you are contracting out to Sub-Contractors. Depending on workload you have the Sub-Contractor do more up to the maximum point “Customer Training”. Your own Technicians should be well versed enough to take the job over from whatever point the Sub-Contractor finishes. Including the Pre-Wire if the market warrants.

Work Slider Diagram

The work slider diagram is a means of managing high and low volume times with Sub-Contractors. Moving into a busy period you simply move the slider forward to give more responsibility to your Sub-Contractors. Adversely in a low volume time you move the slider back to put more work onto your own technicians.

Using this method you break a job into its components and assign the components based upon current work load. Everything left of the bar goes to the Sub-Contractor, everything to the right goes to your own technicians. Getting a complete quote from the Sub-Contractor is important, especially if your workload changes day to day.
